Maxine Rose Schur’s award-winning travel essays have appeared in numerous publications and she has twice won the Lowell Thomas Award given by the Society of American Travel Writers for excellence in travel writing. She is also the author of ten critically-acclaimed, award-winning books for young people including picture books and historical novels. Her non-fiction for adults includes the three gift journals: The Reading Woman, Enchanted Islands: Voices and Visions from the Caribbean, and Solo Passages. Her autobiographical travel book, Places In Time was named the 2006 Best Travel Book of the Year by the North American Travel Journalists Association.
A former professional actress, Maxine Rose Schur is a popular, dynamic speaker on a variety of topics that deal with writing. She gives guest lectures and teaches travel writing as well as fiction writing for children at universities and national conferences. She holds a B.A. in Theater Arts from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters Degree in Liberal Arts from Stanford.
